Climbing Wall Paint
Climbing Wall Paint is a one-component, anti-slip, ready-to-use acrylic paint with factory-added mineral aggregate, specially designed for climbing walls. It creates a durable, strong and uniform anti-slip finish, providing professional grip for hands and feet.
Climbing Wall Paint dries quickly and has a low VOC content, making it suitable for indoor use without an unpleasant odour.
The product was developed by Rock City climbers in cooperation with Coo-Var, ensuring a consistent texture and stable friction without the need for homemade mixtures of sand and paint.
Climbing Wall Paint anti-slip paint is designed for climbing walls, bouldering walls, training walls and home installations. It can be used both indoors and outdoors, on substrates such as plywood, wood, GRP, concrete and previously painted surfaces.
As a rule, the product does not require priming — see details. However, proper surface preparation is essential. Before application, the surface should be roughened to ensure the best possible adhesion and durability of the coating. It is then recommended to apply 2–3 coats of the product.
In addition to the colours available in the online store, black, green and yellow are also available to order. Lead time: 4 weeks.
Coverage: 8–10 m2/l per coat, depending on the substrate.

As a rule, the substrate to be painted does not require priming — in most cases, it is sufficient to apply 2–3 coats of the product. The paint can be used on substrates such as plywood, sandwich panels and composite panels. However, caution should be exercised with surfaces made of GRP (glass-reinforced polyester laminate), as this type of substrate may sometimes cause adhesion problems. In such cases, proper surface preparation is essential, including thorough cleaning, degreasing and, if necessary, careful matting.

Frequently asked questions:
1. What is Climbing Wall Paint?
Climbing Wall Paint is the first ready-to-use paint with added aggregate, created specifically for climbing walls by professional climbers and paint experts. Unlike homemade mixtures of paint and sand, it contains carefully selected mineral aggregate that provides an even, fine-grained texture and consistent grip.
2. Where can it be used?
The paint is suitable for indoor and outdoor climbing walls, bouldering gyms, training panels and home walls. It can be used on plywood, wood, GRP, concrete and previously painted surfaces. It is ideal for climbing gyms, schools, fitness facilities and private use. Thanks to its water-based, low-VOC formula (max. 140 g/l), it is safe for indoor use.
3. How many coats should be applied?
A minimum of 2–3 coats is recommended to achieve even aggregate distribution and proper grip.
- 1st coat → wait 6 hours
- 2nd coat → wait 6 hours
- 3rd coat
The paint is touch dry after approx. 1.5 hours. Light use is possible after 24 hours, while full curing takes place after 3–5 days.
4. Can the paint be diluted or spray-applied?
No. The paint should not be diluted or spray-applied — the aggregate contained in the product may clog the equipment. The product should be applied with a brush or short-pile roller. It must be mixed thoroughly before use and during application to maintain a uniform texture.
5. How should the surface be prepared before painting?
- Plywood, wood, GRP: sand with 180–240 grit paper to improve adhesion
- Painted surfaces: remove flaking paint and lightly sand
The substrate must be clean, dry and free from dust, grease and climbing chalk.
6. When can climbing begin?
Light use and route testing are possible after 24 hours. For intensive use, such as in climbing gyms, wait 3–5 days until the coating is fully cured.
7. Is the paint suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. The product is designed for both indoor and outdoor applications. It is weather-resistant and non-flammable. However, it should be applied to a dry surface and painting should be avoided if rain is forecast within 24 hours.
8. What is the coverage of the paint?
Coverage is approx. 8–10 m² per litre per coat.
9. Is the paint safe for indoor use?
Yes. It is a water-based paint with low VOC emissions (max. 140 g/l), low odour and non-flammable. It can be used indoors, provided adequate ventilation is maintained during application and drying.
