The term “Solar Reflectance Index” (SRI) refers to the interaction of a surface with solar energy:

  • SRI - Solar Reflectance Index

    • SRI is a more comprehensive measure that takes into account not only reflectance, but also the emissivity of the material. Emissivity is the ability of a material to release absorbed heat.
    • SRI is calculated based on solar reflectance and thermal emissivity values to determine how hot a surface will become under sunlight compared with standard black (with reflectance 0 and emissivity 0.90) and standard white (with reflectance 1 and emissivity 0.90) under the same conditions.
    • SRI values typically range from 0 to 100, with higher values indicating materials that stay cooler in the sun by reflecting solar radiation and efficiently emitting thermal radiation.

SRI provides a holistic view of how a surface will behave in terms of heat gain from solar exposure by combining reflectance and emissivity into a single index.

** Bituminous substrates must be weathered for a minimum of 1 year before system application. For additional sealing and/or improved adhesion to roofing felt, a priming layer of Elastodeck is recommended. For small projects (up to 100 m2), DoPox® SiRC can be applied directly to roofing felt; however, the durability of the system with Elastodeck is superior. Application on roofs with a 3% slope is recommended to reduce water ponding.

One coating – dozens of substrates

The strong adhesion of DoPox® SiRC reduces the need for costly removal of old coatings. The system is used for protecting and repairing roofs made of various materials, including:

  • Synthetic membranes:
    PVC, EPDM, TPO, Hypalon.
  • Bituminous roofing:
    modified roofing felt (smooth and mineral-surfaced).
  • Polyurethane foam (PUR):
    spray-applied urethane foam.
  • Concrete and masonry:
    sealing concrete and masonry structures.
  • Metal roofs:
    refurbishment and protection of sheet metal roofs (e.g. galvanized steel).

Technical parameters for professionals

The DoPox® SiRC system was developed to meet high engineering and environmental requirements.

  • Composition:
    100% silicone with a high solids content (95% by volume).
  • Environmental profile:
    a product completely free from solvents and thinners (VOC content < 50 g/l).
  • Breathability:
    the system forms a vapor-permeable membrane, allowing the roof to breathe.
  • Chemical and thermal resistance:
    the coating is resistant to solvents and chemicals. It remains stable within an extreme temperature range: from -50°C up to +175°C.
  • Biological resistance:
    excellent resistance to mold, fungi, and staining.

Simple application and high efficiency

Installation of the DoPox® SiRC system is fast and efficient.

  • Application method:
    brush, roller, or airless spray.
  • Coverage:
    the recommended coverage is typically 0.62 l/m2 (0.8 kg/m2) per coat, depending on the type of substrate.
  • Drying time:
    1 to 4 hours (depending on temperature and humidity). The next coat can be applied once the roof is safe to walk on.

Important: Roof safety and anti-slip properties

Due to the properties of 100% silicone, a roof surface coated with DoPox® SiRC becomes very slippery when in contact with water.

  • Risk zones:
    In areas where people are present (especially within zones 3-4 meters from the roof edge and along walkways), the use of an anti-slip additive is absolutely essential.
  • Recommended application method:
    To achieve optimal slip resistance on a wet coating, we do not recommend mixing aggregate into the liquid in the bucket. The most effective solution is to broadcast the aggregate directly onto the wet, freshly applied coating.
