RD-Sunguard self-cleaning paint
RD-Sunguard is a single-component, high-performance white coating that reflects sunlight and has self-cleaning properties. It is based on new-generation resins that increase its reflective properties, reduce coating soiling, and naturally lower the temperature inside buildings.
- SRI > 110 - With its high solar reflectance index (SRI), special pigmentation, very high UV resistance, and high dirt resistance, RD-Sunguard self-cleaning paint helps keep surfaces white and clean.
- SR = 87% - The high solar reflectance (SR) means that RD-Sunguard paint reflects up to 87% of solar radiation. It effectively reduces the heating of building interiors.
RD-Sunguard can be used on most types of surfaces, including: bituminous roofs, steel roofs, facades, provided that a suitable primer coat is applied first - see systems.
The paint is water-based, easy to use, and safe. Virtually odorless, it does not affect people in painted rooms and can be used in residential buildings. It does not contain any harmful substances.
RD-Sunguard provides long-lasting performance, whether it's energy savings, improved thermal comfort, or reduced heat gain. It is a fast-drying coating system that significantly reduces downtime during application.
RD-Sunguard self-cleaning paint is also available in other colors—please contact us for more information.
By maintaining a lower surface temperature, RD-Sunguard increases the efficiency of photovoltaic panels (especially double-sided panels). A double benefit: cooler rooms and more energy generated.
SR and SRI coefficients for Sunguard – what do they mean?
- SRI = 110
- SR = 87%
Test results on Sunguard paint samples exposed to UV radiation for 4,000 hours showed that the paint does not significantly lose its solar reflectance index (SRI) during this period. After 4,000 hours of testing, the SRI value remains at 104.7 ± 3.6.
It should be noted that white roofs should be cleaned at least once a year with a pressure washer to remove any serious dirt that may affect their reflective properties.
The terms "solar reflectance index" (SRI) and "solar reflectance" (SR) refer to the interaction of a surface with solar energy, but they measure different aspects:
- Solar Reflectance - SR
- Reflectance is a measure of the proportion of solar radiation (energy from the sun) that is reflected by a surface rather than absorbed. It is usually expressed as a percentage and indicates how much solar energy is reflected by the surface.
- Reflectance is often used when discussing the properties of roofing materials, coatings, and other surface finishes, indicating how much sunlight they can reflect.
- Solar Reflectance Index - SRI
- SRI is a more comprehensive measure that takes into account not only reflectance but also the emissivity of the material. Emissivity is the ability of a material to release absorbed heat.
- SRI is calculated based on solar reflectance and thermal emissivity values to determine how hot a surface will become when exposed to sunlight compared to standard black (with a reflectance of 0 and an emissivity of 0.90) and standard white (with a reflectance of 1 and an emissivity of 0.90) under the same conditions.
- SRI values typically range from 0 to 100, with higher values indicating materials that remain cooler in the sun by reflecting solar radiation and effectively emitting thermal radiation.
In summary, while reflectance is a simple measure of how much solar energy is reflected by a surface, SRI provides a more holistic view of how a surface will behave in terms of heat gain from solar exposure, combining reflectance and emissivity into a single index.
